As coach Noel said, the Jets win over the Islanders on 27/1/13 was "not a Picasso". But it sure was an exciting game to watch!
Our ticket group thought that the Jets had the vast majority of scoring chances through the first 2 periods. Nabakov really stood on his head.
Enstrom turned over the puck badly twice, both resulting in Islander goals (their first and third goals). It was an off game for Enstrom.
It's hard to fault Montoya when the goals resulted from such high quality scoring chances. In fact, there were no soft goals on either side - just some defensive lapses by the Jets, and some incredible offensive pressure by the Jets for long stretches of the game.
Tavares was a force every time he was on the ice, and had 3 points, but the other Islander lines were generally in their own end defending against the Jets.
The crowd was the loudest yet this year. Montoya gave credit to the crowd for helping the Jets turn the game back in their favour.
The Jets first 2 goals resulted from great passing plays. Wellwood led Ponikarovsky perfectly for a wide open shot in front of Nabokov. Little scored on a "tic-tac-toe" passing play from Ladd and Antropov.
Byfuglien now has 3 goals for the year, all on bullets from the blue line. His shot is just amazing. The power play goal midway through the third period was a momentum changer. Burmistrov scored again just a minute later, on a deviously brilliant play, sneaking in little by little from the blue line to the slot, and then ripping home a quick shot.
The Islanders' coach- Capuano - was quoted as saying that the Jets speed and transition game was tough for the Islanders to match.
On the OT winner, Kane simply raced by the Islander defenceman to rap home the rebound on Jokinen's shot. Kane's speed sealed the victory for the Jets!
