Question: What do you think this will do to the Quebec situation vis a vis new arena, bid for the Coyotes?
Follow up question: If Winnipeg had not bought a team and was still on the outside looking in, would a lockout be a disaster for our chances?
My thoughts: This is a serious threat to the Quebec bid to buy a team. In the short term, this gives the NHL another year to troll for owners to keep the team in Phoenix. Long term, it could create a more generous revenue sharing system where a weak team can survive on handouts. Also possible but less likely, it gives Quebec time to make mistakes like pissing off the NHL with press statements or leaks.
If Winnipeg was still trying to buy a team, I think this would have been similarly bad as well. Anything that gives the board of governors and Count Bettman time to cook up a financial scheme to prop up the deadwood teams is likely to result in more delays and complications.
