Zone Nordiques still optimistic for an announcement before July 15. Could be timed for late on a Friday afternoon in the summer.....The less publicity the better from the NHL's perspective, and in the slowest time in the NHL offseason, after the big free agent rush is over.

"Hockey Buzz Eklund @eklund Shane Doan may be the next hold up with Rick Nash. We won't know until Monday Night when Shane decides if he is leaving Phoenix or staying"
[My comment - Doan's decision might be a few days, or a week, or even weeks later, whether or not there appears to be enough signatures on the petition. Even if there aren't enough signatures, there is huge uncertainty as to Jamison closing the deal with enough cash and financial resources to make it work. If Doan is really waiting till the ownership situation is resolved, realistically he will be waiting for a while. The longer Doan stays on the sidelines, the worse it looks for Quebec to get the team for 2012].

^^^ The idea that the Red Wings would be looking for a forward had not occurred to me, since they seem to need defensemen as well, and were trying to sign Ryan Suter.
Wouldn't it be "wild" if they signed Doan and traded for Yandle??? (There are rumours that Yandle might be available for trade, at the right price).

^^^ The losses of players doesn't happen in a vacuum, or by accident. The GM, Maloney, must have instructions from his bosses.
However, it doesn't necessarily prove what the outcome is going to be. It could just be the NHL saying, look, the team can't make any commitments until the ownership situation is resolved. Even more to the point, if Jamison were somehow able to buy the team (which I doubt), he could be telling the NHL, look, we are going to cut costs like crazy. No free agent signings over $X please! Or, it could the NHL doing a fire sale (as Jocelle Cauvier put it), with a view to minimizing short-term expenses and losses before a move. Who knows?
But it seems very clear that there is indeed a fire sale going on!

Today one of the petitions was delivered to city hall in Glendale - this is the petition for a referendum against the sale tax increase. This petition had more than twice the required number of signatures! Over 4,000 signatures. There is huge elation on the Zone Nordiques today. There was also a tweet today from the interim Glendale city manager (Ed Beasley's interim successor), who said that without the tax increase, he did not see how they could possibly make good on the management fees to Jamison. The folks on Zone Nordiques think that the NHL won't wait, or won't care, what happens with the other petition, which is progressing much more slowly (i.e. the one on the council resolution approving the agreement with Jamison). The Zone Nordiques people think that the NHL will use this one petition that is already delivered as the prime reason for giving up on the Jamison bid, and that they will conclude a deal with PKP shortly - before July 15 - to move the team to Quebec. Stay tuned!

Honestly, they can’t put bums in the seats with the players they have, who are supposed beloved in Glendale - does anyone (in Glendale/ the NHL) think a roster full of “strangers” is going to improve things?
At the same time though, GB has created such a farce in Glendale, I can’t imagine the NHL cutting loose without a scape goat - IE: a failed vote/suit.

www.journaldequebec.com/2012/07/06/jamison-aurait-jusqua-lunditranslation by google translate PHOENIX COYOTES Jamison would have until Monday An ultimatum was issued to the businessman KEVIN DUBÉ ISSUED: Friday, July 6, 2012, 10:43 p.m. | UPDATE: Friday, July 6, 2012, 10:46 p.m. While the Phoenix Coyotes are successful in the playoffs this year, the Glendale City Council is divided on the group's proposal Greg Jamison. While Manny Martinez, Joyce Clark and Steven Frate approve the initiative, Mayor Elaine Scruggs Dr. Phil Lieberman and Norma Alvarez were vehemently opposed. Yvonne J. Knaack for his part is still hesitant. The NHL would finally asked Greg Jamison to confirm Monday whether it was or not able to raise the money needed to buy the Phoenix Coyotes to keep them in Arizona. That at least is what brought the U.S. network NBC, the official broadcaster of the games of the National Hockey League yesterday. In fact, the network reports that the Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan, who is unrestricted free agent, has not wanted to enter into negotiations with other bands since still waiting to know what will happen Coyotes. No. 2 of the NHL, Bill Daly did not want to comment on the issue. In an exchange of emails with the Journal, he simply denied vague information, writing that it was not "precisely that," without giving further details. Monday at the latest The veteran would have until Monday Coyotes, after which he could look elsewhere. Monday would be, according to NBC, the date would have fixed the NHL potential owner Greg Jamison. Recall that it was supposedly a tentative agreement with the NHL to buy the Coyotes, but has still not been able to raise the necessary funds. It must finalize this agreement to another agreement, it has tied up with the City of Glendale and this time involving a sum of 324 million over 20 years for it to manage the Jobing.com Arena, in between force. The NHL is still manager of the amphitheater with an extension until August 1st. Referenda threatening Monday's will not simply the decision making of Shane Doan or Greg Jamison. It will also be one where citizens will hand officially 1,862 signatures needed to hold a referendum on the management agreement between Jamison and Glendale. At last, the two instigators of the process, Joe Cobb and Ken Jones, were hopeful to be able to raise the required number of signatures. Another referendum should also take place at the same time in November, on rising sales taxes in Glendale, which would aim to pay $ 17 million to Jamison for the arena. A total of 4,000 signatures, double the number that is required of 2000, have already been collected, according to the Arizona Republic.

One thing is certain - next week will be interesting for the Coyotes-Nordiques situation - starting on Monday!
-Some nebulous NHL deadline - rumoured to be a July 9 "checkup" on Jamison, his bid and his investors.
-possible July 9 delivery of signatures for second petition, on the actual agreement between Glendale and Jamison - maybe. Cobb and Jones are fairly loosely organized, and are fairly unpredictable. Note that the first petition - for a referendum on the sales tax increase - was already delivered.
-some rumours that July 9 is an important date for Shane Doan, and his free agency status.

I'm not sure if this is the sales tax referedum petition, or the petition for a referendum on the agreement itself between CoG and Jamison.

francoiscouture.blogspot.ca/2012/07/advienne-que-pourra.htmlfrancoiscouture (translated by google translate) Sunday, July 8, 2012 Come what may "Come what may". This is probably what should be said Pierre Karl Peladeau. Because according to the definition of this French proverb, we must act according to our conscience and make the most fulfilling things but none the less, in part beyond our control. And no doubt Péladeau did everything he had to do to get a concession in the NHL. And he did it well. He presented his plan to the NHL, he was awarded the management contract for the new amphitheater to be built, he launched a sports TV network willing to broadcast the games of his team, he has the money to buy a team the NHL, etc.. For what happens next, it is thank you to the decisions of the League. Personally, I am surprised that July 9, 2012, I am writing on the subject of the possible return of hockey to the fall of 2012. To be honest, I was planning to see the NHL Coyotes announce the end in mid-March, while remaining five home games for the Coyotes. I thought the NHL would want to take this effect "last chance" to attract curious or ensure the presence of some fans. Later, I thought the announcement would be made before the playoffs began, around the 10-11 April. I thought by that against the Coyotes rateraient these series. Then in my last post, I said that my personal deadline was July 1. That was before the NHL extension of 30 days the agreement it held with the City of Glendale and that was to end June 27 Like the NHL, so I pushed myself a few times my deadline to stop believing. And I do it again. But for the last time ...! In one direction or the other, a decision should be taken this week. BIG Monday Greg Jamison was unable to convince anyone that he had accumulated the necessary funds to buy the team. Personally, the current situation does not surprise me at all because in August last, almost a year ago, I wrote that Jamison would be unable to buy the team. Moreover, according to NBC, the NHL would have given up today Monday to Jamison to demonstrate that it has completed its financing. This is also what Monday, July 9 that Doan had identified as the deadline after which it would consider offers from other organizations than the Coyotes. Player who always played for the same organization (Jets / Coyotes), Doan wants to finish his career in Phoenix but wants to be reassured about the future of the organization of the desert. Now it seems that Doan was not reassured because he has yet to sign with the team. This is also what Monday, July 9 that citizens, causing the petition opposing the agreement, must disclose the list of signatures. If this number is high enough to force a referendum, it will be in November. The instigators of the petition challenge also consider the July 9 and claim to have more to do until 16. This is an issue to follow. Along with this petition, another petition circulating in Glendale in which citizens were invited to express their disagreement with the increase in sales tax of 0.7%. This petition has been filed with a sufficiently high number of signatures to force a referendum in November. This referendum is endangering the agreement with Jamison since this increase would allow the City of Glendale to reap $ 23M / year, money that must be used to pay management fees of $ 20 million for the first year of the agreement with Jamison. Without this entry money, the Director-General of the City stated that the City may not have sufficient funds to honor the agreement. For a summary of the mess in which Glendale is found, the City is facing a threat of two referendums that could destroy the agreement. The holding of an already confirmed while keeping the rest to be second. With these two swords of Damocles hanging over the agreement, it could not be confirmed until November. A first major problem arises: At the beginning of the 2012-2013 season, the NHL should retain ownership of the team waiting to see if Jamison and Glendale will be able to conclude their agreement. This risk, the NHL should run without relying on grants $ 25M from Glendale and the NHL which could count for two years. But the NHL has renewed its agreement with Glendale for 30 days, until July 27. She did not do it for 6 or 12 months! I guess it speaks volumes about the intentions of remaining in the NHL Coyotes owner ... Then, if despite all these obstacles, this agreement was to be realized and entry into force, the Goldwater Institute (GWI) announced that it would challenge the agreement for breach of the Gift Clause *. Before launching into unnecessary legal expenses, GWI expects to see whether this agreement will come into effect or actually if citizen action will be sufficient to avoid GWI to intervene in the case. Side of Quebec, the City has not used his exit clause allowing him to get out of the bidding she initiated to renovate the Coliseum today. These repairs are intended to upgrade the coliseum and respect the standards of the NHL. This is clearly an indication that the side of Quebec and Quebecor, has not thrown in the towel for the 2012-2013 season! But again, time is running out if we want to perform these tasks in time. Mayor Labeaume had talked about mid-July as the deadline that the City must make a decision whether or not we should go for with this work. We'll be there at the end of the week. Again on July 9, several questions remain on hold to begin to know what happens there and the Coyotes where they evolve? Jamison found he money? The agreement with Glendale and the purchase of the Coyotes to the NHL can they be made without pitfall? The NHL does decide to go through the process, even one more year to remain owner in Glendale? The NHL does decide to disband the team outright for the Coyotes and keep Quebec as a bargaining chip for the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the NHLPA? Will it transfer to Quebec Coyotes? The only answer that comes to mind is this: Come what may! * Counsel of the City and those of the Goldwater Institute does not agree on compliance or otherwise of this contract from the Gift Clause. According to counsel for the City to determine whether or not the agreement respects the Gift Clause, we must make the following calculation: A vs. B + C. To make their calculations, lawyers in Glendale have used the results of the study Pollack. : A = What the City pays as agreed ($ 300 million in management fees + $ 24 million in renovation costs) = $ 324M over 20 years. Since the $ 15M that the City could provide a management fee of the arena (AMF) in 2025 does not have the same value as it could give $ 15M in 2016, this figure is reduced by this value. The $ 324M over 20 years becomes $ 204M in present value. The rest of the figures I give to represent B and C is also laid emphasis on this. B = What the City will receive in rent, overloaded on the Notes entitled to appointment (naming rights) = $ 45M. C = What the City will lose if the team leaves under various scenarios = $ 177M. In the study, they took the current scenario, or 41 parts and 30 local events and estimated at 50, the number of events it would if the Coyotes were gone. Finally, according to counsel for the City, that the City pays ($ 204M) is less than the total of what it receives and saves ($ 45M + $ 177M = $ 222M) The City wins $ 18M So with this agreement and therefore complies with the Gift Clause. Two points will be raised by the GWI about what the city must pay AMF (point A): First, the GWI has already mentioned that he would consider him a grant, an amount exceeding $ 10 million / year in AMF. In the current agreement, it is an average of $ 15M that the group receives Jamison City of Glendale. Then, according to the agreement, Jamison received the complete management of parking but the city does takes no account in the calculation leading to $ 324M over 20 years. However, the GWI believes that this parking lot has a value of $ 100M over 20 years. This estimate comes from ... the City of Glendale itself! Indeed, last year, when the City had tried to issue bonds to finance $ 100M for Hulsizer on the purchase of the Coyotes, it was the parking which was used to fund the $ 100M. The GWI therefore considers that in 20 years, $ 324M is not that the group receives Jamison but $ 424M. By calculating A vs. B + C, one realizes that the contract no longer meets any of the Gift Clause.

I hope they've at least asked that question. Shane Doan, Dave Tippett, Don Maloney and all deserve better. Coyotes question: Will franchise fold, be sold or move? PUBLISHED 57 minutes and 7 seconds ago LAST UPDATED 39 minutes and 7 seconds ago Staff report Sporting News aol.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2012-07-09/phoenix-coyotes-sale-gary-bettman-jerry-reisdorf-greg-jamisonAs the plot thickens in Arizona, the Phoenix Coyotes are left to ponder their future. Although that's nothing unusual for a team that has been in ownership netherworld for years, there is poignancy today. A Monday count of signatures will determine whether a key portion of the team's sale agreement to Greg Jamison will be on the November ballot. If the initiative succeeds, there is real chance Jamison, et al, will bail on the sale. Dave Tippett's Coyotes come off their most successful season, only to find their future as bleak as ever. (AP Photo) All hell could then break loose. The National Hockey League has owned the Coyotes since buying them out of bankruptcy. Now, according to media reports, the notion surfaces that the league could fold the team. Given the power Gary Bettman has wielded to keep the franchise in business, it seems farfetched he would poison the Coyotes now. Another option, mentioned by Mike Sunnucks of the Phoenix Business Journal, is to end a long dance with sports mogul Jerry Reinsdorf and complete a sale to him at a rock-bottom price. Reinsdorf has been in and out of the Coyotes picture, but is seen as a favorite of Bettman. His Chicago sports empire includes the NBA's Bulls and American League's White Sox. He has ties to Phoenix Shutting down the Coyotes is the least likely option, especially with the 2012-13 schedule out and collective bargaining agreement talks heating up. More likely, Sunnucks noted, is this scenario: If the Jamison sale collapses and a Reinsdorf sale can't be done, the league could keep the team in the Phoenix market one more season while seeking a buyer who could then move the Coyotes. That can of worms opens and brings thoughts of Quebec City, Kansas City and other possible destinations, real or imagined. After tonight's quote from Bill Daly - that they are going to wait till the end of July to analyze the situation - and then who knows after that anyway - I am beginning to believe that they will NEVER *move* the Coyotes. That they might fold them, but that they will not move them. Based on everything we have heard from Quebec, I also expect that Quebec WILL get a team.
Maybe the option of folding the Coyotes is the ultimate answer to the theoretical lawsuit issue. I.e. you can't be sued for moving a team if you didn't move it. Can you be sued for folding a team - when no-one will buy it from the league? Can't see how that could happen, when they have waited this long to find a buyer.
Folding the team is consistent with all of the UFA's that have left the team this summer - including, perhaps, Doan. It isn't really consistent with any other alternative, since the buyer would generally want to have a competitive team to field.
The argument about the effect on salary cap might be theoretically moot, on the basis that there are 1/30 fewer revenues as well as 1/30 fewer teams - ignoring that the team that folds is the weakest revenue generator. So the overall league salary cap should theorietically shrink by 1/30, and the cap per team remains the same. The cap per team is going to get adjusted through the CBA anyway, so it really is a moot point if the folding occurs before the CBA is concluded.
I have said that I couldn't imagine the NHL operating the team in Glendale one more year - and maybe the NHL agrees completely! It's what they've always said - we will not operate the team in Glendale next year! And they won't. They just won't relocate either. Pfft! Gone, like a bad dream!
And maybe the tweet is correct about multiple cities being happy. Maybe Quebec in 2013, and (I'm speculating wildly) maybe Seattle and Markham in 2015 (!?).
The NHL drops the Coyotes folding as a bomb near the beginning of the CBA negotiations. See - we really are poor!
This scenario is consistent with other things we have heard rumoured - such as some un-named governor connection saying that the Quebec relocation is "tool late for 2012".
I know it's kinda crazy, but it sure seems to fit what we've been hearing lately. It could be a negotiating ploy with PKP. Or it just might be what they are going to do!
